Reddit rips amid explosion in options activity
Stocks can move in strange ways. Look at Reddit, which is romping Tuesday despite little that would qualify as “new” news. The company unveiled some new AI advertising tools yesterday, but the stock only started to rip after the open of trading this morning, amid a surge of options trading.
Over 102,000 call options traded as of 10:37 a.m. ET, more than double the 20-day average of 42,500.
Big grain of salt, but Reddit’s move may also have something to do with reports of a Trump administration plan to cut down on pharmaceutical ads, which has weighed on large advertising firms like Publicis and Omnicom in early trading — around the same time Reddit started to rise sharply. But who knows.
