Tyson’s beef business is getting smoked, but its chicken business is thriving
Tyson Foods’ chicken business is keeping it profitable while its beef business bleeds money, the company reported on Tuesday.
The nation’s largest meatpacker said that its chicken sales have soared as cash-strapped customers search for low-cost protein. The price of beef has skyrocketed in recent years amid a cattle shortage.
The boost from chicken sales is more than offsetting its losses on beef, which sent Tyson Foodsstock up nearly 10% on Tuesday morning. Its stock is up nearly 17% year to date.
