For the first time, Tesla’s EV market share went below 50%

Tesla pretty much created the electric vehicle market in the US. Now it’s lost its majority position. For the first time, Tesla’s share of the US electric vehicle market fell below 50%, according to Q2 data from Cox Automotive. Teslas made up 49.7% of electric vehicles, down from 59.3% last year.

Meanwhile, EV sales overall grew 11% but that growth is going to competitors (there are now more than 100 electric vehicle models available in the US). While Tesla’s Q2 sales beat Wall Street expectations, they were still down nearly 5% from last year.
