80% of OpenAI’s staff joined after ChatGPT launched

ChatGPT maker OpenAI’s transition from non-profit to for-profit has been a bumpy one, according to a New York Times report citing interviews with 20 current and former employees. Much of those growing pains involve new people. Indeed, only 3 of the 13 people who helped found the company in 2015 are still there, and 80% of its 1,700 current employees were hired since the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022.
