What would it take to lure OpenAI’s head of research, Mark Chen, over to Meta? That’s the question Mark Zuckerberg asked Chen and according to The Wall Street Journal, the Meta CEO mentioned numbers with a lot of zeroes.
A couple hundred million dollars? A billion?
While the response is not framed as a direct quote, it seems the absurdly high figure was meant to test if there were any amount of money that would make Chen leave. There wasn’t.
But according to the WSJ’s report, while Chen may have declined Zuckerberg’s approach, the conversation might have been the seed that led to the Meta chairman and CEO’s sky-high pay offers for the “superintelligence” team of AI all stars that he was putting together.
