Report: Chinese buyers evading US export controls on Nvidia Blackwell GPUs
Despite strict US export controls, Chinese buyers are getting their hands on Nvidia’s latest and most powerful Blackwell GPUs, according to reporting from The Wall Street Journal.
Brokers are placing orders for servers loaded up with Blackwell H200 GPUs through companies registered outside of China, and reselling them with a markup for up to $600,000, according to the WSJ.
The FBI is investigating reports of Chinese AI company DeepSeek acquiring banned GPUs, in light of the release of the startup’s cheap and powerful R1 models, which rocked the industry.
Separately, Singapore has opened a probe into the ultimate destination of Dell and Super Micro Computer servers that contained advanced chips from Nvidia and were shipped to Malaysia.
