OpenAI (along with every other tech company) is trying really hard to make sure that the US government uses its AI.
The company has been embraced by President Trump for glitzy announcements pledging hundreds of billions’ worth of investments in data centers, it has been awarded up to $200 million contracts from the Department of Defense, and its chief product officer was commissioned as an officer in the Army.
But in case that wasn’t enough to get in the good graces of the US government, OpenAI announced a partnership with the General Services Administration to sell ChatGPT Enterprise to any federal agency for $1 per year.
The program will not use any of the inputs or outputs to train OpenAI models (which is the case for all ChatGPT Enterprise customers). OpenAI said the deal also includes training for federal employees.
