Yat-Gai Au, CEO and founder of the Chinese herbal medicine company Regencell Bioscience, is now one of the richest men in the world. His company does not generate any revenue, let alone a profit.
His 86% stake in the company is now worth about $33.2 billion. In January, when the stock was a split-adjusted $0.13, his stake was worth just over $55 million.
That makes him the 56th-richest person in the world, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Au is now richer than some high-profile investors like Peter Thiel or Bill Ackman.
His skyrocketing wealth coincides with an insane rally in his company’s stock. Regencell is up 59,000% this year as of market close on Tuesday.
But his wealth may be fleeting: the stock is down about 20% in premarket trading. Life comes at you fast.
