Trump’s planned tariffs will hit a broad spectrum of products.
Donald Trump announced his plans to slap a 25% tariff on all goods imported to the US from Canada and Mexico, going against the trade deal his first administration brokered. Trump said in a Truth Social post that the tariffs would remain in place “until such time as Drugs, in particular Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this Invasion of our Country!”
Sherwood News grabbed data from the United States International Trade Commission to break down exactly which goods we import from Canada and Mexico.
According to the USITC data, the total amount of goods imported from Canada and Mexico during 2023 totaled $892 billion, and covers a wide variety of goods, leading with vehicles, oil and petroleum products, and machinery.
The USITC offers several levels of granularity in the categories of goods that it tracks. We loaded up one of the more detailed datasets in this searchable table that lets you look for detailed categories such as golf carts, beet sugar, and perfume.
