Trump says US will take a 10% stake in Intel
Intel stock was up more than 5% Friday after President Trump said the US government would take a nearly 10% stake in the ailing chipmaker.
Trump said in the Oval Office that the company agreed to give the government the stake in a deal that would potentially convert grants under the CHIPS Act into the equity stake. Talks of the US owning a portion of Intel were first reported last week.
Earlier this month, Trump called for the resignation of Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, whom he then met with last week, partly to discuss the deal.
Intel also disclosed on Tuesday that Japanese tech giant SoftBank was buying a $2 billion stake in the American chipmaker.
