RFK: Covid jab not recommended for healthy children, pregnant people
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said Tuesday that the COVID-19 shot is no longer on the country’s recommended vaccine list for healthy children and pregnant people.
The new standard is a stark deviation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s earlier stance that everyone six months and older get vaccinated. Kennedy’s announcement is also less stringent than what FDA officials had signaled last week, that vaccines would only be recommended for people 65 and older or with high-risk conditions until more studies are done.
Vaccine companies like Moderna and Novavax rose on the news, despite it implying fewer sales for one of their key revenue streams. Investors may feel relief that the guidance limits vaccines less than expected going into Kennedy’s tenure at the agency.
Today, the COVID vaccine for healthy children and healthy pregnant women has been removed from @CDCgov recommended immunization schedule. Bottom line: it’s common sense and it’s good science. We are now one step closer to realizing @POTUS’s promise to Make America Healthy Again. pic.twitter.com/Ytch2afCLP
