Nvidia rallies after launching Jetson Thor “robot brain”
Shares of Nvidia are up about 2% as of 1 p.m. ET after the chip designer formally unveiled the Jetson Thor, a platform for physical AI and robotics that it calls a “robot brain.”
During CEO Jensen Huang’s keynote speech at the CES convention at the start of the year, he detailed how the company had designs on revolutionizing robotics and manufacturing, moving up the curve to physical AI. The Jetson Thor marks Nvidia’s latest offering in the field, which it says has 7.5x more AI compute than its previous chip and 3.5x the energy efficiency. The suggested retail price for the Jetson ADX Thor Developer Kit is $3,499.
In its fiscal first quarter, Nvidia’s automotive and robotics division brought in $567 million, or a little more than 1% of total sales.
The $4 trillion chip designer is slated to report its second-quarter earnings after the close on Wednesday.
