Intel, Texas Instruments hammered by update on Chinese tariffs
Intel and other chipmakers like Texas Instruments and ON Semiconductor that operate fabs in the US are sliding Friday, and sharply underperforming Nvidia and AMD.
The divergence happened after China’s main association of chipmakers clarified that companies like Nvidia and AMD, which outsource chip production to Taiwan, would have their products classified as originating from Taiwan.
That means chips produced in Taiwan would avoid Chinese tariffs — Beijing announced a new 125% tariff on US goods Friday — stemming from the escalating trade war between the world’s two largest economies.
