The world’s top-selling automaker, Toyota, said it expects President Trump’s tariffs to cost it about $9.5 billion in its fiscal year ending in March.
According to Toyota, the massive sum — the biggest estimate by any company thus far — accounts for supplier fallout, too. Toyota’s US rival GM has forecast a tariff impact of up to $5 billion.
“It’s honestly very difficult for us to predict what will happen regarding the market environment,” Toyota’s head of finance said in a briefing.
Toyota said the tariff hit in its fiscal first quarter, which ended in June, was about $3.05 billion. Toyota slashed its full-year operating profit guidance by about $4.1 billion, or nearly 16%.
