Amazon gives up on 'just walk out' claiming 'dash carts' are the new big thing
The technology of the future can very quickly become the technology of the past.
Amazon’s senior vice president of grocery stores told the Information that the retail giant is mostly bailing on its “Just Walk Out” system.
Launched in 2018, Just Walk Out is a mix of cameras, sensors, and human supervisors that allow Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go shoppers to skip the checkout line.
While Just Walk Out will stick around in a few locations, Amazon said Dash Carts — which allow customers to scan their own groceries as they shop — are the next big thing.
